The 540^th Military Police Detachment is to provide expanded command and control capabilities for MP Brigades, Internment/Resettlement (I/R) Operations, or the Army Service Component Command (ASCC). The detachment is currently deploying in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom to the Iraq area of Operation.

The MP Corps supports the Joint Commander by conducting combat and combat support operations including protection, enforcement and detention throughout the entire spectrum of military operations.
